This swim program flies under the radar but offers kids great value, instruction and a superior, supportive team experience.  The Red Devils swim team is part of the Nassau County Municipal Swim program, a program that offers four divisions of swim meets throughout the summer.

The program usually kicks off the last week of June with try outs — for the younger kids (8 and under) they must show strength swimming the length of one lap across the pool.  For older ages, kids must be able to endure two laps. As kids get older additional strokes are required.

After try outs, kids usually find out if they’ve been accepted within 48 hours and begin their daily practices the following week.  Practices usually last one hour to one hour and fifteen minutes Monday through Thursday mornings, and Fridays are “Fun Fridays.”  Fun Fridays involve all swimmers and are used as  time to bond and play games.

The season is comprised of 6 meets and culminates with a Championship meet held at the Eisenhower Park aquatic center.  There are also A, B, C and D meets throughout the season which allow kids to compete against their own times to become eligible to swim for each level.

There is great value in swimming with the Red Devils — the program usually costs around $200 plus the cost of a mandatory racing swimsuit.  All in, the cost is usually less than $300 and includes daily instruction, opportunities to compete, clinics and more.

    1. Natasha Manorhaven Red Devils

Our child has been on the Red Devils for almost three years and we can truly say that her sense of teamwork and sportsmanship were nurtured and developed in this positive environment. Best of all, she’s now a strong swimmer — truly a life skill here on Long Island. Almost from the start, lessons were learned. After the first meet when she broke out the “doggie paddle” when she shoulda been swimming the fly, she learned that she wouldn’t get a ribbon even though all of her friends did. While this was a tough lesson at a young age, it helped motivate her to become faster and stronger. The camaraderie of the team cannot be beat. From urging teammates to cheer for one another to the team spirit, kids learn early on that the team is better together. You won’t find kids putting each other down, and often you will find kids giving others tips to make them faster. The price is right, too, at just under $200 for the program, bathing suit and cap. If your kid is new to swimming, or has always wanted to try out but never got around to it, or never knew about the Red Devils and wants to give it a go, definitely try it this summer. You won’t regret it.

This is the best most encouraging swim program ever. It’s like a family. It makes you a strong swimmer and teaches good sportsmanship.

Love this program! Super fun for the kids, not too taxing, a really excellent experience every summer we’ve done it. I love how tight this team is – especially the older kids mentoring the littles – and they all really thrive here.
