ASVBA NYC’s Elite Volleyball Club
New York City’s All Star Volleyball Association (ASVBA) is a club program that teaches young girls the volleyball skills and game training to compete at a national and college level. Our teaching philosophy starts with athletics and conditioning, allowing each player to progress in the skills and attitude needed both on and off the court to become an elite volleyball player.
Every team member adheres to a high level of sportsmanship and academics while working to increase physical strength and master game strategies. Our motto is “teach first and coach later,” and our goal is to provide a positive environment that speaks to the player and fosters a life-long passion for the sport of volleyball.
Our teams train on age-appropriate levels (11u – 18U) and players are allowed to progress at an accelerated pace. This means that coaches are trained to teach specific age groups and do not progress with the teams each year and a player who excels can play up into a higher age group. One-on-one training is also available, so whether a player is new to volleyball or has years of experience, we’re ready to take her to the next level.
Teams learn both on and off the court with demonstrations, lectures, videos, and information on related topics such as nutrition, conditioning, gyms, communication, health, behavior and substance use. As a result, our athletes display character, respect and leadership in all they do.
Volleyball is the ultimate team sport, and to create a strong team, we invite girls from all schools and neighborhoods to join our Club. Tryouts take place in November and practice begins the first week of December and continues through May, two evening each week with Sunday clinics, or practices. Our 13u to 18u teams practice at the Fieldston School in Riverdale, NY, a state-of-the art facility. Our 11u and 12u teams practice at Bank Street School on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, a new venue for ASVBA.
ASVBA is a section 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization. ASVBA fees are comparable to other clubs in New York City, and includes uniforms and travel tournaments. Some additional costs are incurred during the season, and financial support is available for those qualified.
Our teams travel to weekend tournaments (including all holiday weekends), so a commitment by parents or other family members to the Club is vital. The warm and spirited environment of ASVBA community relies on the involvement and support of its extended family and volunteers.
ASVBA plays in GEVA (Garden Empire Volleyball Association) tournaments throughout the January – May season. Teams also compete in a number of local and East Coast tournaments run by other area clubs. Some teams compete in the AAU national tournament in Orlando in June and the USVBA national tournament in late June.
