Volleyball. I’ll bet you didn’t think it would be tough to get on your school’s team, but it’s one of the more challenging….
You see, most winter sports require indoor space. Indoor space means that less kids can be accommodated. Which means that usually there are some cuts. But never fear, once again CYO comes through again with a robust volleyball program for kids across Long Island.
CYO volleyball is an inter-parish league that offers competitive volleyball games for girls in grades 5-12. Depending on each parish, there may be anywhere from 1 to 3 teams that play teams from other Catholic parishes in Nassau and Suffolk County, NY.
Ya know how there are some sports that seem like they’re gonna be really affordable and then – BAM! – you have to buy a ton of gear. Volleyball isn’t one of those sports, at least at the CYO level. Your daughter can wear her regular sneakers and play.
For those that have more sensitive arms, sleeves like these are available to help soften the contact between skin and ball. Depending on your daughter’s playing style, she may also want some knee pads.
The season runs January – April and most parishes begin registrations as early as October. Be forewarned, Volleyball is one of the fastest growing sports on Long Island
Travel teams play a 10 match schedule followed by playoffs for the top teams in each division. Usually, there is one practice and one game per week although there could be multiple games in a week.

The Saint Aidan Girls Volleyball Program runs from March through May and is open to students grades 5-12 for the 2018-2019 school year. Girls Volleyball is the fastest growing CYO sport and the program is open to students who live in the Saint Aidan parish or live in adjoining parishes that do not have their own CYO volleyball program.
Many parishes don’t have a volleyball team, so be sure to ask if your child is eligible to play with another parish based on your address. CYO volleyball teams are great way for kids to become stronger volleyball players, learn how to compete on the court and practice good sportsmanship. Did we miss a parish? Send us a note!
